Why did you become a circus artist?

I would say solely because I was born into it, but that isn't enough. I briefly left; when I was a child; to go to school and experience a so-called "normal" life. It wasn't for me. Even there I was always somehow performing. Whether in class or with my friends, family, I was always trying to entertain. It drove me crazy not being in the ring. That's all I wanted to do. And I have to believe that after so many generations of circus artists before me, I must have something in my blood that craves the life of a performer.

What has been the greatest challenge in your life as an artist?

I think for most artists, the answer is the same. Self-criticism, comparison to others, lack of belief in oneself. Simply never being good enough in your own eyes. Strangely, all those feelings go away the moment the lights hit you. It sounds cliché, but what can I say? Its true.

But often I find being my own biggest critic is a good thing. I fuels me to be better. Maybe I'll never be good enough for myself, but that doesn't stop me from trying. And at the end of it all, it's the audience who decides anyway.

What is your favorite circus show and why?

Cirque D'Hiver Bouglione in Paris. I have had the fortune of seeing many incredible shows. Growing up in this business, you're given the luxury of being able to do so. But this; for me; was IT.

I had heard of this show since I was a child, I'd seen pictures and videos. I first saw it live when I was 15. I can't tell you exactly what it was that made me fall in love with it. The beauty of the building, the atmosphere and quality of the show, the energy of the band, artists and dancers. It embodied everything I admired about circus my entire life. So far, I haven't seen anything that gave me the emotions I felt that day.

Where do you see yourself in the future?

That is a tricky question. It changes every day. Depending on the mood I am in at that moment, whether I feel optimistic or not. Preferably I would like to remain in show business for as long as I can. I know not everyone is granted this life forever, but it's a nice dream to have.
